Tasting Notes

The Colgin IX Estate Red 2007 presents soaring aromas of blackberry liqueur, cassis, graphite, lavender, and crushed stone, evolving into hints of dark chocolate, espresso, tobacco, and violets. On the palate, it is full-bodied and multidimensional, combining dense black fruit, blueberry, licorice, and savory herbs with remarkable precision. The texture is silky yet commanding, supported by fine, chalky tannins and vibrant freshness. The finish is endless and harmonious, showing both depth and finesse, with the structure to age gracefully for decades.

Vintage Highlights

The 2007 vintage in Napa Valley was near-perfect — warm days, cool nights, and even ripening led to fruit of exceptional purity and concentration. The IX Estate Vineyard, perched high on Pritchard Hill, is composed of volcanic soils that yield wines of mineral tension and depth. Under the guidance of Ann Colgin and winemaker Allison Tauziet, this wine was aged for approximately 20 months in 100% new French oak, achieving remarkable integration and polish. It remains one of the most celebrated Colgin releases ever produced.

Why It’s Special

Colgin Cellars is synonymous with luxury, precision, and timeless beauty — often compared to the First Growths of Bordeaux. The IX Estate Red Wine represents the estate’s flagship blend, capturing the essence of its extraordinary Pritchard Hill site. The 2007 vintage, awarded 100 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, is widely regarded as one of the greatest Napa Valley wines ever made — a collector’s icon, showcasing intensity, balance, and ethereal elegance.
