Tasting Notes

The Roagna Barbaresco Crichët Pajè 2012 reveals an extraordinary bouquet of wild strawberry, rose petal, orange peel, mint, licorice, and crushed rock, layered with subtle notes of tobacco leaf, truffle, and balsamic herbs. The palate is ethereal yet powerful, delivering luminous red fruit, fine spice, and savory mineral tones framed by ultra-refined tannins and perfectly balanced acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and hauntingly persistent, echoing the wine’s purity, precision, and inner energy.

Vintage Highlights

The 2012 vintage in Piedmont was marked by a cool spring followed by a warm, dry summer that produced low yields and exceptional concentration. The Crichët Pajè parcel — located within Roagna’s historic Pajè vineyard in Barbaresco — is a small, southwest-facing amphitheater of old vines rooted deep in calcareous marl. Winemaker Luca Roagna crafted this wine using the estate’s signature long macerations (up to 90–100 days) and extended aging in large neutral oak casks for over five years, resulting in a Barbaresco of breathtaking detail and longevity.

Why It’s Special

Roagna is one of Italy’s most iconic producers, known for its uncompromising adherence to traditional methods and its deep respect for terroir. The Crichët Pajè bottling — made only in exceptional vintages and in minute quantities — stands as one of the most coveted and age-worthy expressions of Nebbiolo in existence. The 2012 vintage
