Tasting Notes
The Alto Moncayo 2009 is a monumental Garnacha, offering breathtaking concentration and opulence while maintaining balance and finesse. It opens with explosive aromas of black cherry liqueur, raspberry compote, licorice, espresso, and exotic spices. The palate is dense and velvety, filled with layers of dark fruit, cocoa, and mineral notes, leading to an endless, silky finish that lingers for over a minute. Despite its intensity, the integration of fruit, oak, and acidity is flawless.

Vintage Highlights
2009 was an exceptional vintage in Aragón, characterized by warm, dry conditions and low yields. Old bush vines (50–100 years old) rooted in stony, iron-rich soils produced small berries with immense concentration. Aged for 18 months in new French and American oak, the 2009 Alto Moncayo combines power with extraordinary purity — a defining vintage for the estate.

Why It’s Special
Crafted under the direction of Jorge Ordóñez and winemaker Chris Ringland, the Alto Moncayo 2009 has become a modern icon of Spanish winemaking. Its 100-point rating from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate solidified its status among the world’s elite wines. A pure, luxurious expression of old-vine Garnacha that delivers both hedonistic pleasure and profound terroir character.
